Tim_Day 15 (Ushuia)

Day 15
Woke up in the morning and had the usual toast breakfast. Surprising I think I´m starting to actually like it? We headed down to the downtown and to run a few errands. We ended up deciding to buy tickets to the island with the penguins. They were really expensive but we wanted to see them.

We ate a good lunch and went down to take the 6 hour tour. Got on a little bus and drove through some of the most beautiful country I´ve ever seen. It made the Tetons in US feel small. The mountains were massive and the trees and streams were beautiful. I was so happy we took the tour even the drive was amazing. Saw so creeks with beavers swimming and building a small damn. Pretty cool. I don´t think I´ve ever seen that. I can´t wait to see more of the mountains on our trip north tomorrow.

We ended up driving for about 1.5 hours mostly on back dirt roads. Past some beautiful trees and streams all the way. We finally got to the place where we take a boat for 15 minutes to get to the penguin island. The ride was fun and we beached the front of the boat on the island. The island had thousands of penguins all making noises and moving around. Some just sitting, some swimming, and some fighting. The small baby penguins were getting large but you could still see some of their baby fur which they were losing. Was an amazing experience to be on that island. Even without the penguins the island was very beautiful. The guides took us on a small walk through the island where we could see the nest of the penguins. Was weird but this species of penguin would build holes in the ground like a gopher to live in. Some of them were about 5 feet deep. Very strange but cool. We were able to get about 5 feet from the little guys. Being on the island was an amazing experience. More than I expècted and more than I could have imagined. Very worth the money. One of those lifetime experiences.

We got back from the trip at 9;30 at night and it was still light. Stays light till around 10 or a little later. We were pretty tired but happy. When we retured to the hostel we ate some food with a few french people we met. Really nice people and one thing I learned from them is that allot of the reason they are so mean to americans and other people is because most people worry very much about how they look to others and are actually very insecure on the inside. Was funny to hear that but it made sense. I think I have more compassion now to french people. They still treated me like a dick when I was there but I have a little more insight now into why they did that.

Sleep good last night. Still enjoying being under the covers when I sleep.
