Tim_Day 11-14 (Ushuia)
Day 11-13
Unfortunatly I wrote an entry for all these days but the cheap ass computer I´m on frooze and I lost all of the information. The computers we work on are really bad. The one now has all the letters missing on the keys and the space bar sticks down. Also the browser is all in spanish. I think Gates made the hard drive in this garage since it´s so old and slow. Anyway I´m going to just give a bulleted highlight on what happened during these days since I´m so pissed about losing the information.
- Went to an old antique market in Buenos Aires. Was cool to see old things from them. Funny but most of their antuiqes looked like American old antiques.
- Hot as hell that day. I sweat like a homo eating a hotdog.
- Went to the area you see in allot of photos with the colorful houses and the people dancing tango in the streets. Actually was street kids performing an ackward dance for money. Not as romantic as the picuters. But none the less it had charm and was a unique experience. I enjoyed it.
- Next day got airline tickets to fly to Ushuia. It was about the same price and will save us 3 days on a bus. The morning we left Buenos Aires it was raining and cooled down. Of course the day we leave it was nice. The flight was simple and really amazing views of the mountains. Breath taking.
- Usuhuia is amazing town located at the base of some impressive mountains. Love this little city. Don´t want to be here in the winter thought with the snow, cold, and only 5 hours of light.
- We got our little hostel and settled in. Very nice little hostel. Slept really nice and under the sheets which was new and very nice. All other Argentina is with shorts no shirt and no sheets.
Day 14
Yesterday was really fun. Me and Ana got up early and went to go get our bus ticket to Califati where there is a huge glacier to see. We walked down to the place to get the tickets. It´s always so much work just to do thesimplestt things like buy a ticket. We walked for 20 minutes got lost asked about 3 different people and finally found it. Guess I need to just get used to it being that way because I sometimes get really frustrated why it takes us so long to do things that seem so simple. Anyway we got our 16 hour bus ride ticket to Califati. Leaving on Friday.
After the ticket we had a quick lunch and taxied up to the bottom of a local mountain where you can take a ski lift up the mountain to see the top where there is a small glacier. It´s more like snow on the mountain but they call it a glacier. The ride up on the ski lift was fun. The trees and view was spectacular. The forest has a shorter tree that is really dense and looks like small bonsai trees.
At the top of the lift we took a trail for about 1.5 hours to the top of the mountain. The country is beautiful. Reminds me allot of the back country in Sequia. We were above the tree line so no trees grew and it´s just the harsh climate that you only get to see a couple months out of the year. You can tell the rest of the year is heavy snow and winds.
It´s really funny to hear spanish being spoken and played on the radios here. It seems like a funny climate to have spanish in. Trees, cold and mountains don´t equal spanish to me. I think of hot climates. It´s a nice contrast.
After the hike we walked all the way down the mountain to our hostel. Was a long hike and Ana was getting cranky. It´s funny too because there are allot of large wild dogs roaming the streets here. Ana is terrified of them even though they seem really tame. I must admit most of them do look like wolves and not like the fluffy nice dogs at home.
We cooked a really good pasta for dinner and relaxed most of the evening. Watched a movie which was nice. Haven´t seen much tv and it was nice to zoon out for a couple hours. Sleep good. It´s so nice to be under blankets and warm. The stray dogs barking and fighting did wake me up a few times but not to bad.
