Ana_Mongolia(Last days)

We got back on a Sunday, October 15 and had more than a week still in Ulan Batar. Decided not to do the Gobi trip which was at least would have taken 7 days on another van for 8 hours a day to see the famous dunes. Wasn’t feeling up to it. Decided against it. Plus the group we could of join with was not my Instead we went to the National Park nearby and spend two nights hanging out. We went with the Val and Shyan. Had a good time! Did another short horse trek. Tim’s horse was so tiny, it looked like pony and kept farting the whole time. I don’t know what was the problem. It was hilarious though.

The last days we hung out with our German buddy Tom. He was pretty cool. We drank a lot the last few of nights. I loved the Detroit bar, I felt like I was back in the taste. I kept ordering summer breeze cocktails. They also served bar food. We tried the bacon and fries platter and the club sandwich. Pretty tasty! Went to local museum was nice. Learn a bit more about the history of Mongolia. The boys went tank driving. I just went with them for the ride. Tim was in heaven. He always wanted to that, so he says. It was so freezing. I would only get out of the car to take photos of Tim and my hands would get numb in a heartbeat. I didn’t feel my fingers. I tried to at least to get in the tank for the ride, but the space was so tiny that I decided against it. The driver seat was even tighter. Tim drove it for 1 km. I just watched. Boys! Boys! Boys!

I have to say I have mix feelings about Mongolia. I like it at first- the idea of people living in gers, being so remote and what it seemed in the middle of nowhere place and not that many people visit Mongolia. But after being there for three weeks I’m not that impressed. I guessed we stayed too long in the capital and there was not much to do there. It’s just a city. I didn’t care for the people either. Of course the people we dealt with at the hostel and along the nine day trip to the north were nice but overall they just seemed dry and bland. The people I saw on the street always had a serious looked and almost mean looking. Plus dealing with the street kids getting on your face to beg for money didn’t help at all. And the overall vibe of the city was just dark and dry, even on sunny days.

At least I had the opportunity to visit Mongolia, looking back one week would have been plenty of time to visit. I probably won’t be back, but I can say I’ve been there done that!
