It was so nice to leave Uyuni. The bus ride to Potosi was only 6 hours. I was hesitant to arrive here since is the highest city in the world, more than 4,000 meters of altitude. The bus ride was pretty smooth and much nicer than the first one to Uyuni. There were more tourist which it was nice to see. =)As soon we arrived it started raining and soon enough it became hail. Apperantly it hails more than it snows here. We stayed at the bus terminal for a while. Finally we manage to get a taxi and went to our hostel. We didn´t have reservations but no problem, they had room for us. The rooms were really nice. The bed is the best I´ve slept on so far. We shared the room with two nice girls from Australia. The bathroom craked me up. The toilet was inside the shower. Funny stuff I tell you!
The city itself it´s very old and colonial. I like it! The main attraction here is the Mine nearby. Tim is actually there touring. Me no thank you. I´m a little be claustrophobic and the tour is not recommended for people with asthma and that are claustrophobic. Tim was so excited to go this morning. The highlight of the tour is you can light up dynimate! Tim´s dream to do so. I just asked to come back in one piece.
It´s nice to just hang out. It´s the first time we´re apart for hours. Tonight we take off to La Paz. It´s a little lower in altitude. I tell you I think the altitude is messing with my stomach. The first night we arrived here and we had dinner my stomach started hurting, not bad but off for sure. Yesterday was off the whole day. Today I feel much better. Thank goodness since we´re taking the night bus to La Paz.
Yesterday we went to La Casa de La Moneda Museum. It was actually very interesting to know that they actually made coins there. Our tour guide was a character. He loves Bolivia! Potosi was one of the richest town in South America back in the days thanks to all the silver in the mine. Now you can only find zinc and lead.
Although is a tourist town, the people are not very friendly. You get the feeling you´re not wanted. You walk down the street you stand out a mile a way. We´re not only tall but are white. When you go to places to either the internet, bank, or random shops they won´t look at you most of the times. They speak to you looking down or away. But of course there are exceptions. In our hostel the people are really friendly and here and there walking down the streets people would smile at you. It doesn´t happen often. We´ll see about La Paz!
